Sights/Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation u-notch screwed into the barrel. 

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is wood with a straight comb, straight wrist grip, 12 rib forend, and a checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The buttplate shows very light wear mainly located on the edges. The furniture shows light wear with infrequent pressure dings and scratches. Most notable is a shallow scratch on the right side of the wrist. The LOP measures 12.75" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. This furniture rates in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is lightly worn. There is light erosion in the bore with moderate pitting towards the muzzle. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 87% of its metal finish. The receiver shows mostly light surface scratches. The magazine tube shows operational wear and infrequent spots of oxidation. The bolt shows operational wear, some light scuffing, and a small spot of freckling. The barrel finish shows occasional surface scratches, but mainly spots of oxidation and freckling on the right side of the barrel. The screw heads range from lightly tooled to unmarked and retain strong slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a very strong World War I era example of Winchester's classic slide action rimfire. Approximately 85% of the original blue finish remains, an impressive level of preservation for a rifle of this age. The metal surfaces retain fairly strong blue with scattered blemishes and oxidation spots, the rifle retains matching numbered parts, an important indicator of originality and collector appeal. The stock and forend present clean lines and finish, contributing to an overall appearance that reflects careful use and long term preservation.

Mechanically, the rifle remains serviceable and correct. The bore rates 6 out of 10, showing visible wear but still functional for typical rimfire pinking. The action functions correctly and exhibits the smooth, positive pump stroke that made the Model 1906 a trusted utility rifle in the early twentieth century. The 20" barrel gives the rifle a compact, lively feel while maintaining a practical sight radius.

As a 1917 production Model 1906 with strong remaining original finish, matching numbers, and correct mechanical operation, this rifle stands as a desirable and historically relevant example from Winchester's golden era of rimfire slide action rifles.
