Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade pinned to a base integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a folding carbine style ladder sight. The upper tang is drilled, tapped, and filled for a tang sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is two piece smooth wood with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb, with a steel carbine buttplate. There is modest handling wear. There are scratches, nicks, and compressions. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP is 12 7/8" from the front of the trigger to the rear of the buttplate. The plate has taken to a mottled patina with intermittent oxidation and wear on the heel and toe. Overall this stock is in Good condition as refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is dark gray with defined though rounded rifling. There is erosion and mild pitting down the length. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 30% of its original finish. The balance of the finish shows modest operational and handling wear. There is thinning and finish loss on the leading edges. There is saddle ring wear on the receiver. There is intermittent oxidation. There is evidence of cleaning on the barrel where some surface corrosion was wiped away, leaving the top of the barrel generally in the white. The screw heads are lightly tooled but serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half-cock safety position. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Winchester’s John M. Browning-designed Model 1892 adapted the strength and twin-locking-lug action of the Model 1886 to a smaller receiver intended for pistol-length cartridges. Compact, lightweight, and smooth handling, the Model 1892 was produced in rifle, carbine, and musket configurations, with the 20" Saddle Ring Carbine becoming one of its most recognizable forms. The .32 W.C.F., now commonly called the .32-20, offered mild recoil and practical utility for small game, pest control, and general ranch use.
This 1918 Saddle Ring Carbine retains about 30% of its original blue finish, with the balance showing extensive edge loss, oxidation, operational wear, saddle-ring wear, and areas cleaned to white along the barrel. Its refinished stocks remain solid and serviceable, while the dark gray 5/10 bore retains rounded but defined rifling with erosion and mild pitting. The action functions correctly with a crisp trigger and an operating half-cock position. Despite its worn finish and refinished wood, this remains an honest World War I-era .32-20 carbine with the compact handling and traditional profile prized by Winchester enthusiasts.
