Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade with a hood mounted to a serrated base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a flip-up u-notch dovetailed into the barrel. The receiver has four filled taps for mounting an optic on the receiver, though none is present.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The one piece wood furniture has a straight comb, basketweave press-checkered semi-pistol grip, basketweave press-checkered forend, and a checkered synthetic buttplate. The cap on the semi-pistol grip has a red Winchester logo. There is light wear present with a few pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. The LOP measures 13.75" from the face of the trigger to the rear of the butt. There are no chips or cracks. Overall the furniture is in Very Good to Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi bright and the rifling is sharp with stubborn fouling. There is faint erosion and spots of pitting in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The finish shows light wear with a few scratches and some small spots of oxidation. There are marks around the receiver taps where an optic likely used to be mounted. There are some scuffs and a small ding in the magazine. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have NOT verified that this example has been sent to Winchester for recall. The winning bidder should confirm with Winchester prior to firing and returning the firing pin for replacement if it has not been replaced already. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This rifle presents in a high exterior condition, retaining approximately 98% of its original finish. The metal surfaces are clean and even with light handling evidence, and the stock maintains its classic mid 1960s Winchester sporting profile. Overall appearance is excellent and reflects careful use and storage.

Mechanically, the rifle functions correctly. The bore rates 6 out of 10, showing noticeable wear that will affect ultimate accuracy potential but remains serviceable. The semi automatic action cycles properly and reflects the smooth operating characteristics that made the Model 100 popular with hunters during its production run.

The Winchester Model 100 is subject to a factory safety recall related to the original firing pin design. Early firing pins were prone to breakage, which could result in an unintended discharge. Winchester issued an updated firing pin to correct this issue. It is essential to verify whether this rifle has been fitted with the updated recall firing pin. If the recall modification has not been completed, the rifle should not be fired until the updated firing pin is installed by a qualified gunsmith.

Historically, the Model 100 represents Winchester's mid century semi automatic sporting rifle design, offering hunters a modern alternative to bolt action rifles in popular chamberings like .308 Winchester. A 1965 production example sits toward the later portion of the model's run and remains desirable for its handling and classic appearance. With strong remaining finish, correct function, and the recall status properly addressed, this rifle stands as a solid representative of Winchester's semi automatic sporting heritage.
