Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation U-notch screwed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are wood, the buttstock has a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, and checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The buttplate shows moderate wear mostly located around the edges. The furniture shows scattered pressure dings and surface scuffs. Most notable is a large pressure ding on the left side of the semi-pistol grip. The LOP measures 12 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. This furniture rates in Good-plus condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original to the parts (The barrel and some other smaller parts have been replaced)

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with stubborn fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 35% of its metal finish. The barrel and magazine tube show scattered scuffs and scratches, with the finish remaining strong in protected areas. The receiver shows scattered scuffs and scratches, with the finish remaining fairly strong on the bolt, sides of the receiver, and hammer. The screw heads range from lightly tooled to disfigured and retain strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Expert Grade rifle shows the enhanced stock shaping and more refined presentation that distinguish these variants from standard Model 06 production. Approximately 35% of its blue finish remains, giving the rifle a balanced, honest appearance that blends visible original finish with the worn areas. The rifle has undergone some parts replacement, most notably the barrel and a few small components, which is not unusual for a rifle that saw extensive use over the past century.

Mechanically, this example is very strong. The bore rates an impressive 9.5 out of 10, unusually bright and sharp for a Model 06 of this age, and the action functions correctly with the smooth cycling expected of Winchester's early pump action rimfire design. The replaced barrel contributes to the excellent bore condition, and the functional integrity of the action makes this an appealing shooter grade example of the Expert configuration.

As a 1920 production rifle with high bore quality and the desirable Expert furniture, this Model 06 remains a solid representative of Winchester's golden era of rimfire slide action sporting arms, even with its documented part replacements.
