Sights/Optics: The front sight is a Winchester 97A sight atop a ramp with a hood. The rear sight is a  Winchester 32C open sight. The optic is a Winchester No. 5 telescope, 5-power with crosshair reticle. The glass is mostly clear, but has a small crack in the objective lens.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished stock is a #769-1A 27.5" thin profile stock. The stock is wood, the buttstock has a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, and checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The buttplate shows light wear with a small chip taken from the left side. The furniture shows light wear with some scattered pressure dings and surface scuffs. Most notable are multiple small fills in the left side of the stock and a patch-repair at the top edge to the left of the receiver at the rear. The LOP measures 13.25" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. This furniture rates in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 75% of its metal finish. The finish shows scattered wear and patina that mostly blends with the finish. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain strong slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This rifle presents very well for a prewar rimfire. Approximately 75% of the original blue finish remains, with the metal surfaces showing a pleasing mix of intact blue and honest patina. The long 25" barrel gives the rifle a classic sporting profile and an excellent sight radius. The Dual Sight configuration, featuring both open sights and a No. 5 scope, was one of the premium sighting options offered by Winchester at the time and adds significant versatility and collector appeal.

Mechanically, this example is excellent. The bore rates 9.5 out of 10 with bright steel and sharp rifling. The action functions correctly and displays the smooth bolt operation that made the Model 69 family a respected and accurate mid grade rimfire line. The stock retains its period contours and well-executed repairs to the wood, providing the clean, well balanced appearance characteristic of Winchester’s prewar sporters.

As an early Dual Sight Model 69 with strong finish, an outstanding bore, and correct mechanical function, this rifle stands as a handsome representative of Winchester’s late 1930s rimfire production. It reflects the quality and practical design that made the Model 69 a favorite among shooters during the prewar era.
