Barrel Length: 20" Round.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade pinned to a raised block integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a ladder sight which presents a fixed u-notch when down and a sliding v-notch leaf when up marked out 0-20, dovetailed to the barrel.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece smooth gumwood with straight grip, straight comb, steel carbine style buttplate, and banded forend. There is a saddle ring on the left side of the receiver. The stocks have been lightly refinished. There are no chips or cracks. There are a few scattered handling marks. The LOP measures 12 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good condition as refinished.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is very light erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 7/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its current metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light to mild handling wear. There are scattered scratches and light intermittent oxidation. There is some erosion under the new finish. The screw heads are lightly tooled with strong serviceable slots. The pins are unmarred. The markings are mostly legible though a bit shallow and parts of the address are muddied. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions properly. The hammer has a half-cock safety position. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine is a classic 1920 C&R lever-action chambered in the light and desirable .25-20 W.C.F. cartridge. It features a 20" round barrel, full-length magazine, saddle ring, carbine buttplate, and ladder rear sight, giving it the traditional SRC configuration.

The rifle is in Very Good condition as refinished, retaining about 95% of its current blue finish with light handling wear, scattered scratches, shallow but legible markings, and some erosion under the refinish. The refinished stocks rate Very Good with only light wear. The bore is a strong point, bright with sharp rifling and only light erosion. The action functions properly with a crisp trigger, making this a nice-looking, shootable Winchester 1892 carbine with classic Old West appeal.
