Nothing epitomized the westering mountain men and frontiersmen of the 19th century more than buckskin clothing. Resistant to rain and wind, and fringed to shed rainwater and to conceal the wearer’s outline in times of pursuit, high quality buckskins were worn by Western legends from Davy Crockett to General Custer. This Vintage 1970s Museum-Quality Custom Mountain Man Buckskin Fringed Suede Leather Coat, Pants, & Belt Frontiersman’s Outfit is in Very Good Condition, with a small circular patch repair at the lower right front coat, a small circular patch repair at the lower left back coat, some scuffing at the interior lower right front, the interior lower middle back, and the exterior lower left back of the coat, some dark soiling at the inner front left knee of the pants, some scattered dark soiling and a few small nicks at the front and back pants, and with some scattered age wear evident. Most interestingly, it was handmade by the old Buffalo Robe outfitters of Reseda, California, which produced authentic clothing for museums, reenactors, and the motion picture industry. The coat measures to about a Size 38 chest, boasts a shawl collar, “gun” flaps at the shoulders for added protection against rain, and an open front design, and sports a wide leather belt to cinch that open front tight. The pants measure to a Size 34 Waist x 30 Inseam, feature genuine stag horn buttons down the fly, a laced upper seat, and their own high quality brown leather belt with a brass “hook and loop” closure buckle, and the entire ensemble shows beautiful fringing throughout.
