The Western Costume Company of Southern California was one of the main prop houses in Hollywood for decades, supplying buckskins, boots, hats, and spurs to the studios to outfit their Western movie stars. This pair of Vintage 1960s Western Costume Co. "WC CO" Marked Cowboy Movie TV Show Film Prop Silver Mounted Spurs are in Very Good Condition, with some scattered finish abrading, patina, and age wear evident. Most interestingly, they are constructed of blackened steel, boast elegant scroll and undulating line engraved nickel silver mountings along the outer bands and chap guards, each centered by a darkened brass steer head, and sport fully functional spinning bright silver metal rowels and darkened metal jingle-bobs, with the former stamped “WC CO” (though one marking has the first “C” backwards), denoting ownership by the famous Western Costume Company. These spurs were thus undoubtedly film props rented out to the studios to outfit their Western movie stars in the 1960s. There’s a great scene in the indelible 1956 Western film “The Searchers” in which “Bad” Chuck Roberson is wearing his spurs inside Mrs. Jorgensen’s ranch house, with the jingle-bobs ringing, leading the irascible Ward Bond to bark “Get them spurs off!”.
