Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed blade set between protective ears. The rear sight is the later style sliding aperture sight with a knurled windage knob dovetailed to the receiver.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock on this rifle is an Oval cut, low wood stock with a two rivet deep sighting groove handguard, a type two barrel band, and a crossbolt safety. The LOP is 13.25”. This stock has been sanded and refinished. The wood shows lines, scratches and compressions scattered throughout. The oval cut shows small chips. The stock shows no cracks however the handguard has a crack forming down the center of the sighting groove. The handguard also shows some very small chips on the edges of the rivets. The metal buttplate has semi sharp checkering, has lost most of its finish, turned brown with patina and oxidation and shows rub marks on the edges. Overall the furniture set is in about Fair+ to Good condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized and blued.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is very bright and the rifling is well defined. The bore is very clean showing only one small patch of pitting at the six o’clock position about 3” back from the muzzle. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains 95% of its finish. The barrel has turned brown with age as has the trigger guard and cocking handle. The front sight shows some surface rust on the top in between the wings. The receiver and bolt show only minor rub wear on the friction surfaces. The bolt flat is beginning to form surface oxidation. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a Green canvas sling.

Our Assessment: This Winchester M1 Carbine made in early 1944 represents a later phase of wartime production when Winchester had refined its manufacturing process and began standardizing parts across contracts. This rifle features nearly all Winchester-made components, including a WRA GHD-marked stock, a correct Winchester stock marking denoting inspection by Guy H. Drewry. The rifle is fitted with an IRCO-marked rear sight, notable for its knurled adjustment knob, which was typical of later upgrades or mid to late-production features as the military phased in adjustable sights in place of earlier flip types.

Having all Winchester parts makes this carbine particularly desirable to collectors, as many wartime carbines were rebuilt or mixed post-war. The consistent component origin and period-correct markings suggest the rifle was either preserved in its original configuration or thoughtfully restored to Winchester specifications. A clean bore and intact, properly marked stock only add to its appeal. Overall, this is a representative and well-preserved example of a mid-war Winchester M1 Carbine.
