Sights/Optics: The front sight is an undercut blade dovetailed into a base fixed to the barrel jacket. The rear sight is a fully adjustable Lyman aperture screwed into the right side of the receiver. The original rear sight was removed, the holes filled, and cold blued over.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, straight wrist grip, military style grooved forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has moderate handling wear. The wood shows moderate wear with scattered pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. The LOP measures 13.5" from the face of the trigger to the rear of the butt. There is a very fine crack running from the upper tang. This furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. There are a few very minor spots of erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This firearm retains about 90% of its metal finish. The metal shows scattered scuffs, scratches, and small spots of oxidation. The markings are clear and complete. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. The original charging handle is gone, the replacement is threaded in and has a slight bend in it. Overall, this firearm rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This U.S. Army Trials Remington Model 8 was manufactured in 1920 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Remington and subsequently modified by Springfield Armory for military evaluation, these rifles represent a very rare and historically significant variant of the long-recoil Model 8 platform originally designed by John M. Browning. Springfield Armory alterations included a lengthened, grooved wooden forend for improved handling, a military-style sling swivel, high blade front sight, and a receiver-mounted Lyman aperture peep sight. According to the book "The Great Model 8" by John Henwood, known U.S. Army trials examples fall within the serial range of 42200 to 45737. This rifle bears serial number 44813, placing it squarely within that documented range.
Chambered in .25 Remington with a 22 inch barrel, this rifle reflects the original configuration adapted for military testing. The .25 Remington cartridge was one of the standard chamberings for the Model 8 and offered flat trajectory and moderate recoil in a semi-automatic platform. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9 out of 10, indicating strong internal condition. The action functions correctly.
