Sights/Optics: The front sight is a post dovetailed into a base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a folding ladder u-notch sight.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is two piece wood in the standard 1896 configuration. The buttplate shows light handling wear. The furniture shows only a few minor pressure dings and surface scratches. The LOP measures 14" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is worn. There is moderate erosion throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 80% of its nonoriginal metal finish. The finish shows thinning, edge wear, cold blue touch up, and scattered scratches. The screw heads show little to no tooling and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Swedish Carl Gustafs Stads Gevarsfaktori Model 1896 Mauser qualifies as a Curio and Relic firearm and is one of the finest examples of the classic Mauser military rifle. Manufactured by Carl Gustafs Stads Gevarsfaktori, the M1896 was the standard service rifle of the Swedish military for much of the first half of the 20th century. Built to high standards of machining and metallurgy, Swedish Mausers have earned an international reputation for their smooth actions, outstanding accuracy, and superb craftsmanship, making them among the most desirable military Mauser variants.

Chambered in 6.5x55mm Swedish with a 29.1 inch barrel, this rifle utilizes the renowned Mauser controlled-round-feed action that has become the benchmark for bolt-action rifle design.
