Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture set between protective wings. The windage knob is marked "LEFT arrow” twice and "DRC”. The elevation knob is marked "2-12 NHC”.
This M84 scope has covered turrets marked 0-9 for elevation and L/R 0-20 in increments of 5 for windage. The scope uses a tapered post vertical reticle. The sight picture is very clear. The knobs turn with positive clicks and the sunshade is functional. The scope shows some minor marks and lines on the exterior. The rubber eyepiece is pliable. Overall the scope is in Excellent condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock has a semi-pistol grip, metal nose caps, two sling loops, stacking loop and a metal butt plate with a hinged door for storage. The LOP measures 13". The wood shows some minor scattered marks and small compressions. There are two small punch marks on the left side of the stock. A few of the edges show small chips. There are no cracks. The butt plate has been refinished and shows rub wear and pitting under the finish. The door spring is strong and the checkering is well defined. Overall the stock is in Fine+-Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no visible pitting or erosion. Our gauges the muzzle reads at a 0+-1 and the throat at 2+. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.25/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains 98% of its metal finish. The bolt and action show some very minor rub wear on the friction surfaces. The markings are clear and the screw heads sharp. Overall this rifle is in about Fine+-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Springfield M1D sniper rifle was originally manufactured in January 1944 and converted to M1D specification sometime after July 1951, pairing a Springfield receiver with a correctly dated 7-51 barrel for an M1D from 1951. Then after that it was sold by the DCM as a Service Grade M1D in 1994. The rifle is fitted with a correct M84 scope and mount and a flash hider designed to hide the flash from the optic to protect the users eyes.
The M1D was developed late in World War II as a scoped sniper adaptation of the M1 Garand, providing precision capability by mounting optics directly to a block rather than drilling and tapping the action like the M1C. M1D conversions were limited, making correctly dated and stamped examples highly collectible. General George S. Patton, famously praised the M1 Garand, stating "In my opinion, the M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised.” This rifle exemplifies that legacy, combining historical authenticity and functional upgrades for precision shooting.
