Sights/Optics: The front sight is a blade pinned into a base with a serrated face banded around the barrel. The rear bridge sight is a fully adjustable aperture mounted to the receiver dovetail.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is two piece wood in the standard 1903 (not 1903A3) configuration with a notable Rock Island cartouche. The checkered buttplate has moderate handling wear. The cleaning kit compartment is empty. The furniture shows moderate to heavy pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches throughout. The LOP measures 13" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The two-groove bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp with heavy copper fouling. The muzzle erosion measures 0.10. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 75% of its finish. The parkerized finish has turned grey, shows thinning, edge wear, and light scratches. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Good to Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This CMP Remington Arms Model 1903A3 was manufactured in 1943 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic firearm. Produced by Remington Arms Company, the M1903A3 was a wartime refinement of the legendary U.S. Model 1903 rifle. Designed to simplify production while preserving the strength and accuracy of the original Springfield action, the 1903A3 incorporated stamped components and a receiver-mounted aperture rear sight, making it one of the finest military bolt-action rifles fielded by the United States during World War II. This example was sold through the Civilian Marksmanship Program and includes its CMP Certificate of Authenticity. All of the rifle's components are correct for a Remington Model 1903A3 with the exception of the stock, which is an earlier Rock Island Arsenal Model 1903 replacement rather than a Model 1903A3 stock.

Chambered in .30-06 Springfield with a 24 inch two-groove barrel, this rifle combines the proven Mauser-inspired action with one of America's most successful military cartridges. The two-groove rifling adopted during World War II simplified production while maintaining practical accuracy and service life. In this writer's opinion, the two-groove bore rates 8.5 out of 10, indicating strong rifling with honest use. The action functions correctly.

The furniture rates in Good condition with handling wear consistent with military service. This rifle retains approximately 75% of its finish, exhibiting honest thinning and edge wear while preserving its military character. Overall, this firearm rates in Good to Very Good condition and represents a desirable CMP Remington Model 1903A3 with correct Remington components, an earlier Rock Island Model 1903 replacement stock, an excellent two-groove bore, and its original CMP Certificate of Authenticity.
