Sights / Optics: The front sight is a ramped blade with a blade orange rear face, it is dovetailed into a ramped base that is integral to the rib. The rear sight is a square notched and white outlined S&W micrometer sight that is mounted to the topstrap. Each sight has impact damage on the top-left. Under the rear sight base the topstrap is drilled and tapped. The barrel is drilled and tapped for mounting a rail, the rail is not present, a blank is currently installed. A shorter, non-outlined square notch leaf is included for the rear sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth rosewood grips with finger grooves. There is a nick on the right panel above the grip screw and infrequent minor scuffing. There are no chips or cracks. The grips rate in Fine overall condition.

Also included is an S&W branded Hogue Monogrip in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is a little stubborn copper fouling. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9+/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. Apart from the light damage to the sights, there are only a few scattered minor marks. There is a thing, light turn line on the cylinder. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a Performance Center metal hard case, the previously mentioned rear sight leaf and Hogue grip, cable lock, keys for the internal locking system, and instructions for the case locks.

Our Assessment: Guns from the Performance Center are the ultimate expression of old-world craftsmanship blended with modern technology. From the factory, the revolver has deep cut broached rifling, ball detent yoke, PC custom tear drop hammer, PC trigger with stop, and PC tuned action. This is Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 629-6 Compensated Hunter made in 2005. It features a 7 1/2" barrel with dual porting and a tapered underlug to help tame the recoil. Not only will your wrists appreciate the porting but so will your optic if you should decide to mount one since the top of the barrel is ready to accept a rail. The finish is glass bead stainless steel and it has only a few minor marks. This beast ought to make an absurdly fun target shooting revolver and will also be a great hunting gun as the name implies. Given its high condition and the fact that it is included with much of what was supplied brand new, it will also be a great addition to a collection of Smith & Wesson revolvers.
