Sights/Optics: The front sight is a tritium dot dovetailed into the slide. The rear sight is a two dot tritium square notch dovetailed into the slide.  The tritium glow is very faint.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two piece wrap-around textured black polymer. The grips show minimal wear. There are no chips or cracks. This furniture rates in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is minimal wear present. The markings are clear and complete. The St. Louis County Police etching on the slide is crisp. Overall, this pistol rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a very high condition law enforcement service pistol that presents with approximately 99% of its original finish remaining. The exterior surfaces are clean and even with minimal handling evidence, reflecting little to no use. The compact P229 profile offers excellent balance and control, and the all metal construction gives the pistol a solid, confidence inspiring feel in the hand.

Mechanically, the pistol is excellent. The bore rates a perfect 10 out of 10 with bright steel and sharp rifling, indicating minimal wear. The action functions correctly with smooth double action and single action operation, positive decocking, and consistent cycling. The P229 platform earned its reputation through extensive law enforcement adoption due to its durability, accuracy, and ability to handle higher pressure service calibers such as .40 S&W.

Historically, the Sig Sauer P229 became one of the most widely issued duty pistols among American law enforcement agencies in the late 1990s and 2000s.
