Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade pinned into a base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation u-notch dovetailed into the barrel. The receiver has a pair of filled taps for mounting an aperture sight. No aperture is included.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is two piece wood with a smooth straight wrist grip, straight comb, smooth schnabel forend, and a serrated metal buttplate. The buttplate shows light to moderate handling wear. The furniture shows light pressure dings and surface scratches. There are two cracks running from the toe of the stock. The LOP measures 13" from the face of the trigger to the buttplate. The furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is lightly worn with stubborn fouling. There is mild erosion throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6/10.
Overall Condition: This firearm retains about 80% of its original metal finish. The finish shows edge wear and scattered scratches. There are small spots of pitting located mostly on the receiver. The barrel has turned a shade of plum. The screw heads range from unmarred to lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this firearm rates in Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Savage Model 99F Takedown was manufactured in 1924 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Savage Arms, the Model 99 is one of the most innovative lever-action sporting rifles ever designed. Its hammerless action and rotary magazine allowed the safe use of pointed bullets, giving it a significant advantage over traditional tubular-magazine lever actions. The takedown configuration made the rifle especially convenient for transport and storage, adding to its appeal among sportsmen.
Chambered in .303 Savage with a 20 inch barrel, this rifle is chambered for one of Savage's original proprietary cartridges. The .303 Savage was introduced alongside the Model 1895 and earned an excellent reputation as a dependable hunting cartridge for deer, black bear, and similar game. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6 out of 10, showing moderate wear consistent with age and field use. The action functions correctly.
