Sights/Optics: There are no iron sights currently mounted. There is a Barska 3-9 power scope mounted atop the receiver with Ruger scope rings. The glass is clear and the scope rates in Very Good condition.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished stock is one piece wood with a checkered semi-pistol grip, checkered forend, straight comb, and a classic red Ruger recoil pad. There is a large repaired crack that runs from the front right of the hinged floorplate forward just past the checkering and then back towards the receiver. When repairing the forend crack, a bolt was installed in the wood. The left side of the bolt has some small repairs from where it chipped the wood and is dished from sanding. There is also a small crack running from the tang safety and another at the back of the trigger guard. This furniture rates in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is light wear present with only light surface scratches and a few very small freckles of oxidation. The markings are clear and complete. The screw heads show faint tooling and retain turnable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Scope

Our Assessment: This is a very strong example of Ruger's desirable tang safety M77, retaining approximately 99% of its original finish on the metal surfaces. The barrel and receiver show only light handling evidence, and the rifle retains a matching bolt, an important point of completeness and originality. The tang safety configuration is widely favored for its ergonomics and classic Ruger design lineage.

The stock has had a repaired crack in the forend along with other small blemishes and has been refinished. This repair is clearly disclosed for transparency. The refinished stock presents cleanly with correct contours and an even finish, maintaining an attractive overall appearance despite the noted repair.

Mechanically, the rifle is excellent. The bore rates 9.5 out of 10 with bright steel and sharp rifling, indicating very light use. The action functions correctly with smooth bolt travel and solid lockup, reflecting the durability and reliability for which the M77 tang safety rifles are well known. The included Barska 3 to 9 power scope provides a practical optic suitable for general hunting and field use.

As a 1984 Ruger M77 tang safety model with excellent metal condition, a high quality bore, matching bolt, and a properly disclosed stock repair, this rifle stands as a solid and honest sporting rifle. It remains well suited for practical hunting use while retaining the classic appeal of Ruger's early M77 design.
