Sights/Optics: There are no iron sights currently mounted. There is a Leupold 3x9 VARI-X II mounted atop the receiver with Ruger scope rings. The glass is clear and the scope rates in Very Good condition.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one piece wood with a checkered semi-pistol grip, checkered forend, and a classic red Ruger recoil pad. There is light to moderate wear present with scattered pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. There is a gouge in the front bottom of the forend and scuff just behind the front sling swivel. There are no chips or cracks. This furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original, the bolt is serial-matching.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish. There is light wear present with scattered blemishes from handling and operation. The only notable mark is a spot of wear through the finish on top of the barrel towards the muzzle. The markings are clear and complete. The screw heads show little to no tooling and retain turnable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This rifle presents in excellent overall condition, retaining approximately 96% of its original finish. The metal surfaces show light, even handling wear, and the stock maintains clean lines and finish consistent with careful use. The bolt is matching, an important point of completeness and originality. The 24" barrel provides the classic magnum sporting profile and allows the .338 Winchester Magnum cartridge to perform as intended.

Mechanically, the rifle is very strong. The bore rates 9.5 out of 10 with bright steel and sharp rifling, indicating minimal use. The action functions correctly with smooth bolt travel and positive lockup, reflecting the M77's reputation for robust construction. The design is interesting, incorporating a classic Mauser-style claw extractor but as a push-feed. Balance is steady and confidence inspiring, well suited to the cartridge's power level.
