Sights/Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade, dovetailed to the integral barrel band. The rear sight is an adjustable flip-up u-notch sight, with a white diamond aiming reference, dovetailed to the barrel. The top of the receiver is drilled, tapped and filled for mounting an optic (none present).

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece wood, finger groove sporter stock, with a capped pistol grip, raised comb, and sling rings front and rear. The serrated black Ruger buttplate shows light edge wear. The LOP measures 13.75" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock shows minimal wear, with a few small pressure dings and faint blemishes. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Fine-Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with faint fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The finish is very strong showing minimal marks other than some freckling around the muzzle area. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain strong slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This early production Finger Groove Sporter is a desirable and increasingly scarce variant of the 10/22 line. Approximately 98 percent of the original blue and black finish remains, giving the rifle an exceptionally clean and well preserved appearance. The metal surfaces are smooth and consistent, and the classic finger groove walnut stock retains the attractive sculpting and finish that set this model apart from standard carbines. The rifle presents the balanced, elegant profile that made the early Sporter versions popular with shooters and collectors alike.

Mechanically, this example is outstanding. The bore rates 9.5 out of 10, bright with sharp rifling and minimal signs of age or wear. The action functions correctly and exhibits the smooth cycling that helped establish the 10/22 as one of the most reliable semi automatic rimfire rifles ever produced. The rifle's overall condition suggests limited use and careful storage over the past five decades.

As a high condition early Finger Groove Sporter, this rifle represents an important and collectible chapter in the 10/22 family. It combines excellent cosmetic preservation with top tier mechanical condition and remains one of the most sought after configurations in Ruger's classic rimfire lineup.
