Sights/Optics: The front sight is a tall blade dovetailed into a base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a sliding v-notch that folds up to be used as a ladder sight at greater distances.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is three piece wood in the standard carbine configuration. The wood shows scattered pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. The buttplate has handling wear and lost most of its finish. There is a crack starting at the right rear of the handguard. The right rear of the stock is marked with an Uruguayan cartouche and unit marking. The LOP measures 13.25" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is worn. There is light pitting and moderate erosion throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 5% of its finish. The finish has mostly worn away and now shows edge wear, occasional light pitting, scratches, and patina. The screw heads show little to no tooling and retain turnable slots. The rollmarks on the metal are clear and complete. Overall, this firearm rates in Good to Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Remington Arms Company Rolling Block was one of the most successful single-shot military rifle designs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, serving with numerous nations around the world due to its strength, simplicity, and reliability. Uruguay was among the countries that adopted Remington Rolling Block arms, including carbines chambered for the 7x57mm Mauser cartridge during the early 1900s. These carbines were well suited for cavalry and mounted troops due to their compact 20.5" barrels and rugged rolling block actions. This example, serial number 1065, is an Uruguayan contract carbine with a matching stock serial number and retains its original military configuration, including Uruguayan markings on the stock.
