Sights/Optics: The front sight is a fixed blade screwed to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable Square notch leaf sight. The receiver is grooved for an optic, though none is present.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece checkered synthetic with semi-pistol grip, straight comb, and serrated polymer buttplate. This rifle is Tube-Fed through the buttstock. There are no chips or cracks. There is some minor handling wear. There are a few faint surface scratches present. The stock rates in overall Fine-Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with light oxidation. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The finish shows only light surface scratches. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is an outstanding early example of Remington's innovative Nylon 66, presented in the highly desirable Apache Black and chrome configuration. Approximately 99% of the original chrome finish remains, with bright, mirror like surfaces and minimal handling evidence. The black nylon stock retains its crisp contours and color, providing striking contrast against the chrome plated metalwork and underscoring the model’s distinctive mid century aesthetic.

Mechanically, the rifle is excellent. The bore rates 9.5 out of 10, showing bright steel and sharp rifling with very light wear. The action functions correctly, cycling smoothly with the simple, reliable blowback system that made the Nylon 66 famous for durability and low maintenance. Balance is light and lively, and the 19.5" barrel gives the rifle its classic Nylon 66 profile.

Historically, the Nylon 66 was revolutionary when introduced, being one of the first successful mass produced rifles to use a synthetic stock and receiver housing. The Apache Black and chrome variant is among the most visually distinctive and collectible of the Nylon 66 colorways, especially in early 1960s production. A 1962 example in this level of condition, with strong chrome finish and excellent bore, stands as a premium and highly desirable representative of Remington's groundbreaking rimfire design.
