Sights/Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade dovetailed into a serrated base screwed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation u-notch fixed to the barrel. There is a weaver rail mounted atop the receiver. The left-rear of the receiver is drilled, tapped and filled for a receiver sight (none present).

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one piece wood with a checkered forend, checkered semi-pistol grip, raised comb, and serrated synthetic Remington buttplate. The furniture shows light wear with infrequent pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. The LOP measures 13.75" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttstock. Overall the stock is in Very Good to Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with stubborn fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The barrel shows few marks other than a spot of patina just behind the front sight and faint freckling around the muzzle. The receiver shows a spot of oxidation at the rear just below the Weaver rail. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a high condition example of Remington's compact, fast handling Mohawk variant, retaining approximately 98% of its original finish. The metal surfaces are clean and even with only light handling evidence, and the rifle presents the distinctive short action profile that made the Model 600 series immediately recognizable. The 18.5" barrel gives the rifle a lively, carbine-like balance while still allowing the 6mm Remington cartridge to perform effectively.

Mechanically, the rifle is excellent. The bore rates 9.5 out of 10 with bright steel and sharp rifling, indicating very light use. The action functions correctly with smooth bolt travel and solid lockup, reflecting Remington's strong manufacturing standards of the era. Overall handling is quick and intuitive, a hallmark of the Mohawk design.
