Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded post dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation v-notch dovetailed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is two piece wood set with a straight comb, straight wrist grip, schnabel forend, and a smooth metal Remington buttplate. The buttplate shows light finish wear. The furniture shows light wear with scattered pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. There are some blemishes in the current finish from when it was applied. There are two minor cracks running from the upper tang. The LOP measures 13.25" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. This furniture rates in about Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is worn. There is light erosion and pitting scattered throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its metal finish. The finish is fairly strong showing edge wear, scattered freckling, light handling marks, and scratches. The screw heads range from lightly to moderately tooled and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a solid early Remington self loading rimfire that retains approximately 85% of its original bluing. The metal surfaces show honest, even wear consistent with age, and the rifle retains matching numbered parts, an important point of originality for collectors. The stock has been refinished, which is properly disclosed, and it presents cleanly with correct contours and a tidy appearance.

Mechanically, the rifle functions correctly. The bore rates 6.5 out of 10, showing moderate wear with visible rifling, typical for rifles of this era chambered in the .22 Remington Autoloading cartridge. The action cycles smoothly and reliably, reflecting the durability of Remington's early blowback operated designs. The 22" barrel provides a balanced sporting profile and a useful sight radius.

Historically, the Model 16 occupies an interesting niche as part of Remington's early autoloading rimfire lineage, closely related to the Model 24 and contemporaneous with Winchester's Model 1903. Chambering in .22 Remington Autoloading places this rifle firmly in the transitional period before .22 Long Rifle became the universal standard for semi automatic rimfires.
