Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked with decorative scroll engraving, “Remington Model-1100 MAGNUM” and the serial number “357475M”. The left side of the barrel is marked “12 GA. FOR 2 3/4 IN. SHELLS”, with the Remington proof “REP” in oval, a triangle inspection stamp, and “REMINGTON ARMS CO. INC., ILION, N.Y. U.S.A.” Barrel code and warning markings are also present.

Choke: The barrel is not marked with a factory choke designation. However, it measures Cylinder bore with a choke gauge.

Sights / Optics: This shotgun is equipped with rifle sights. The front sight is a serrated ramped post. The rear sight is a square U-notch blade mounted to a ramped and screw-adjustable boss integral to the barrel.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The buttstock is gloss-finished walnut with a straight comb, pistol grip, and a black grip cap with inlaid white diamond. The forearm is matching walnut with impressed game scene checkering. There are scattered dings, compressions, and finish loss throughout, most notably along the forearm and grip area. The buttstock has a factory Remington ventilated recoil pad with white line spacer. The length of pull is 14” from the front of the trigger to the back of the pad. Overall, the wood rates in Good-plus condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original to the parts, the barrel is not original to the receiver.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and smooth, with no erosion. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The receiver shows minimal edge wear and only faint handling marks. There are scattered spots of thinning and minor surface marks on the barrel consistent with light use. The Choate extended magazine tube and clamp are matte finished and non-original. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are legible.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. This shotgun is built on a Magnum receiver, but fitted with a standard barrel chambered for 2 ¾” shells only. It has been modified with a Choate extended magazine tube and clamp. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Remington Model 1100 Magnum features a hybrid configuration: a Magnum receiver paired with a 2 ¾” chambered, rifle-sighted smoothbore barrel. The sights and barrel length make it ideal for shooting slugs or buckshot with precision. The rear sight is a proper U-notch blade on a ramped and adjustable boss—an excellent setup for fast sight alignment under stress. While the barrel lacks a factory choke mark, it gauges to Cylinder bore, which is optimal for slug or defensive loads. The serial number places production between 1968 and 1972, qualifying it for C&R status. With its Choate extended magazine and practical sight setup, this shotgun would have made an outstanding duty gun for a police officer, and still serves just as well today for slug hunting, home defense, or competition. The Model 1100’s smooth gas operation, proven reliability, and timeless design make it a staple in American gun cabinets—and this one brings both function and tactical appeal to the table.
