Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch adjustable for elevation dovetailed into the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, smooth forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has moderate finish loss and light oxidation. The furniture shows scattered pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. There was a chip in the heel of the stock that was filled with bedding compound and sawdust. The LOP measures 13.25" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp . There is faint erosion the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 70% of its original metal finish. The finish is starting to turn to patina and shows edge wear, scattered scratches, and occasional freckling. The screw heads show faint tooling and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This prewar Winchester Model 63 was manufactured in 1940 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester just before the United States entered World War II, the Model 63 represented one of the company's most refined semi-automatic rimfire sporting rifles. By 1940, the design had matured into a smooth, dependable small game rifle widely favored by hunters and recreational shooters.

Chambered in .22 Long Rifle with a 23 inch barrel, this tube-fed semi-automatic rifle reflects the classic sporting configuration of the period. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8.5 out of 10, indicating solid internal condition with good rifling. The action functions correctly.
