Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch adjustable for elevation dovetailed into the barrel. A Bushnell 3X-7X Custom .22 scope is mounted to a rail screwed into the receiver. The glass is clear and the scope rates in Very Good condition.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, smooth forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. The buttplate has moderate wear and oxidation. The furniture shows a few pressure dings and surface scratches. The LOP measures 13.25" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is only the faintest of erosion towards the muzzle end of the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its original metal finish. The finish is strong showing a few minor surface scratches and very faint patina starting on the barrel. The forend cap shows moderate wear. The screw heads show little to no tooling and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This prewar Winchester Model 63 was manufactured in 1939 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester during the height of prewar sporting rifle production, the Model 63 had become one of the company’s most refined semi-automatic rimfire designs. By 1939, the rifle was firmly established as a smooth-cycling and dependable small game arm.

Chambered in .22 Long Rifle with a 23 inch barrel, this tube-fed semi-automatic rifle is fitted with a Bushnell 3X-7X Custom .22 scope, adding practical field capability. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10, indicating excellent internal condition. The action functions correctly.
