Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into a hooded, textured, ramped base fixed to the barrel in front of the forward barrel band. The rear sight is a "U"-notch elevator sight dovetailed to the rear of the barrel; the notch is fine-adjustable for elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are 2-piece walnut with a banded forend, a smooth straight grip, straight comb, and Pachmayr White Line ventilated rubber buttpad. There are light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. Overall, the stocks rate in Very Good condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is stubborn fouling on the lands. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its current finish. The balance of the finish is strong and complete. There are scattered scratches on the front sight hood. The remaining markings are legible. There is minor pitting under the new finish. The Winchester proof on top of the barrel has been removed. The screw heads are sharp to tool marked with strong slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half-cock safety and the lever safety is operational. The action locks-up solidly. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Pre-64 Winchester Model 1894 Carbine made in the 1940s with a 20" round barrel chambered in .30-30 Win. The 30-30 Win. has likely taken more deer in America than any other cartridge except maybe .30-06 and the model 1894, or simply 94 as it is now known, is one of the most popular rifles ever chambered for the round. This example is in Very Good condition with about 97% of its current refinish, a great bore and strong mechanics. Being a pre-1964 example with a desirable "flat band", this rifle will make for a great shooter or a great addition to a Winchester collection.
