Markings: Forend Iron: "59998". Receiver "Perazzi M-X-2-L", "BLOCCATO", "PU 59998" and the usual Italian proofs. Trigger Group: "O/U", "J38 59998". Barrels: "Perazzi spa - MADE IN BRESCIA - ITALY", "ACCIATO SPECIAL", "59998", "AI" "CAM 70 ** 18.4", "KGI 550 *000 18.4" and all the Italian proofs.

Barrel Length: 29.5" ported barrels. The MX2L omitted side-ribs for weight reduction.

Choke: Fixed chokes: Improved Modified over Modified.

Sights: The front sight is a large white bead affixed to the raised rib, there is also a small silver mid bead.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture set includes a two piece checkered English walnut set with a rounded forend and a capped semi pistol grip Monte Carlo stock with right handed palm swell, adjustable comb, adjustable LOP and a kick-eez butt pad. The current length of pull is 14.75". The shotgun weighs 9lbs 3oz. The forend shows scattered chips and scratches in the finish along with minor compressions, there is a repaired crack coming from the rear edge of the forend iron. It also has a reattached chip on the rear upper right side edge. This repair is a little wobbly and will likely need to be repaired again. The stock shows similar wear with scratches and chips in the finish. There are two small cracks coming from the rear edge of the upper tang. The wood has been removed and reinstalled and shows some small gaps around the receiver and uneven gaps at the forend. There is a chip in the top of the comb. The butt pad is soft and pliable showing a split at the top. Overall the furniture set is in about Fair+-Good condition as repaired.

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bores are mirror bright with no pitting or erosion. The bores show some minor plastic fouling in the forcing cones and minor visible lines from use. In this writer’s opinion the bores rate 9.75/10.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 98% of its refinished metal finish. The rib, mono bloc, forend iron, ejectors and receiver show areas where the gun had rusted and then the rust was buffed out and the shotgun was refinished. The ports on the barrel are clean. The bottom barrel shows a small spot of finish loss from the forend that is concealed when assembled. There is minor rub wear on the inside of the receiver. The trigger guard shows a few small surface level lines. The markings are mostly clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this shotgun is in about Good condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The removable trigger group hangs up and is hard to remove. Otherwise, the action functions correctly. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Perazzi MX2L is an Italian competition over/under shotgun made in 1982, built on Perazzi’s renowned detachable trigger platform. This example features 29.5" ported 12 gauge barrels with 2.75" chambers and fixed IM/MOD chokes, along with a raised rib optimized for a heads-up shooting position. The quick-swap trigger system is currently configured as a single trigger firing the bottom barrel first, a common setup for dedicated trap disciplines.

It wears a high-grade, Monte Carlo stock with adjustable length of pull, and adjustable comb, allowing precise gun fit for competitive use. Given the raised rib, bottom-barrel-first configuration, and choke pairing, this MX2L is set up to excel at trap disciplines. As expected from Perazzi, it represents top-tier craftsmanship, mechanics, and purpose-built performance for serious clay target shooters.
