Sights/Optics: The front and rear iron sights have been removed, an empty dovetail slot remains at the muzzle. A Mossberg No. M4c 4 power scope is screwed into the left side of the receiver. There is some internal flaking of the reticle. The scope rates in Good condition.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is one piece wood with a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, wide forend, and a serrated metal buttplate. The buttplate has moderate handling wear and oxidation. The furniture shows pressure dings, drag lines, and scratches. The small safety position indicator is no longer present. The LOP measures 13.25" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its original metal finish. The finish shows light scratches, edge wear, and a few small spots of oxidation. The screw heads show light tooling and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Mossberg Model 44US-D was manufactured between 1944 and 1949 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by O.F. Mossberg & Sons, the 44US series was developed as a training rifle to provide economical marksmanship instruction using .22 Long Rifle ammunition. These rifles were widely used by military organizations, schools, shooting clubs, and civilian marksmanship programs during and after World War II.
Chambered in .22 Long Rifle with a 26 inch barrel, this rifle reflects the heavy-barrel target and training configuration that made the 44US series so successful.
