Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is missing it's elevation adjustment piece.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is two piece wood with a straight comb, straight wrist grip, 9-rib forend, and a checkered synthetic Marlin buttplate. The buttplate is broken and has heavy handling wear. The furniture shows pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. The LOP measures 13.5" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are multiple cracks in the buttstock. The furniture rates in Fair condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is fairly sharp. There is a squib ring near the muzzle and light erosion throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about none of it's original finish as most has turned to patina and oxidation. The finish shows edge wear, scratches, patina, and spots of oxidation. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. One of the receiver screws are missing. Overall, this rifle rates in Poor condition.

Mechanics: The action DOES NOT function correctly as it will not feed from the magazine tube. There appears to be a part missing from inside the receiver. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Marlin Model 37 was manufactured between 1923 and 1932 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Marlin Firearms, the Model 37 was a continuation of Marlin's popular slide-action rimfire line, offering dependable operation and the versatility to chamber .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle ammunition. These rifles served generations of hunters and recreational shooters during the interwar years.

Chambered for .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle with a 22.5 inch barrel, this rifle was designed as a practical small game and utility firearm. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5 out of 10, showing moderate wear consistent with age and use. Mechanically, the action does not function correctly. The rifle will not feed from the magazine tube, and there appears to be an internal part missing from the receiver. Additionally, one of the receiver screws is missing.

The furniture rates in Fair condition with significant handling wear consistent with long-term use. This rifle retains essentially none of its original metal finish, with most surfaces having turned to patina and oxidation over time. Overall, this rifle rates in Poor condition due to its mechanical deficiencies and missing parts, though it remains a worthwhile restoration candidate or source of parts for another Marlin Model 37.
