Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “U.S. / SSA0004” at the breech and “Remington / MODEL 700” at the midsection. The left side of the barrel is marked “REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY. INC. ILION, N.Y. 308 WIN.” The right side of the barrel is marked with inspectors marks at the breech. The bottom of the bolt is matched and marked “0004”.

Sights / Optics: The receiver is mounted with a STD style mount with a Redfield 3-9x Bear Cub Scope in Very Good condition.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a smooth oil finished walnut with a sling loop, semi-pistol grip, raised fluted comb with cheek piece, sling loop, and checkered buttplate. There are minor handling marks throughout. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures approximately 13 1/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the rubber buttpad. The stock rates in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are a few minor handling marks scattered throughout, which is typical for parkerized finishes. The markings are clear. The screwheads are strong and sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This limited edition Remington Model 700 M40-SSA is a beautifully crafted tribute rifle produced in collaboration with the Scout Sniper Association. Built in 2005–06 as part of a small production run, this rifle commemorates the legacy of the U.S. Marine Corps M40 sniper rifle and its use by generations of Scout Snipers. This rifle is in Excellent overall condition, retaining approximately 97% of its parkerized finish with only minor handling marks. The bright bore and sharp rifling earn a perfect 10/10 rating in this writer’s opinion. The oil-finished walnut stock is also in Excellent condition, showing only light marks from careful handling, and features a classic cheekpiece, fluted comb, and sling loops for practical use. Topping the receiver is a Redfield 3-9x Bear Cub scope, mounted to a standard STD-style base and offering clear glass and functional magnification for both target shooting and display.
