Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a U-notch elevator sight dovetailed to the barrel. The top of the receiver has a rib for mounting an optic (none present).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece walnut with a smooth-bottom grooved slide handle, semi-pistol grip, straight comb and a checkered black hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The stocks have a few scattered light nicks and small scratches. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/2" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has minor wear, mostly at the heel, with some stubborn white residue in the well defined checkering (common for this material). Overall, the stocks are in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at most edges. The action shows light operational wear. There is some minor wear on the top of the barrel in front of the forend. There are a few scattered minor marks and infrequent faint oxidation. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 61 is a beautifully crafted takedown pump-action rifle that embodies the quality and precision of post-war American manufacturing. This example, manufactured in 1961, is one of the later iterations before the model was discontinued in 1963, and is C&R eligible due to its age.
