Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade dovetailed to a serrated, ramped base screwed to the barrel. The base is grooved for a hood which is not present. The rear sight is a folding "U"-notch elevator sight dovetailed to the rear of the barrel. The top of the receiver is factory drilled, tapped and filled for a receiver sight/optic mount, none present.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with a capped forend, straight grip, straight comb, ventilated black rubber Marlin recoil pad, Marlin "bullseye" in the belly, and sling studs front and rear. The stocks have minor handling wear with a few nicks and small bruises in the buttstock. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP is 13 3/8" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. Overall, the stocks are in about Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are a few light nicks and thin scratchs. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Marlin Model 1895GS Guide Gun Stainless is a rugged, highly practical lever-action rifle chambered in the authoritative .45-70 Government cartridge. The .45-70 dates back to the U.S. military's 1873 "Trapdoor" Springfield era, but smokeless powder has given it a new lease on life, remaining popular with hunters and lever-gun enthusiasts thanks to its heavy bullet weight, deep penetration, and strong close-to-medium range performance. Marlin's modern 1895 series revived the classic big-bore lever rifle concept in a compact, handy package, and the Guide Gun configuration became especially respected as a woods rifle for hunting, bear country carry, and general heavy-duty field use. This example is particularly desirable with its stainless finish, 18 1/2" ported barrel, checkered walnut stocks, semi-buckhorn rear sight, brass-bead front sight, sling studs, and "JM" marked barrel.
This rifle remains in Fine-Excellent overall condition, with stainless surfaces showing only minor scratches and light operational wear. The bore is great, the mechanics are strong, and the stocks show light wear.
