Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated, ramped blade with an orange insert on a serrated, elevated base that is integral to the rib, which is serrated for glare reduction. The rear sight is a square-notched S&W micrometer sight that is adjustable for windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered Goncalo Alves target stocks with "football" extractor cut on the left panel. The grips have a few scattered minor marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Fine-plus condition.

Type of Finish: Stainless Steel

Finish Originality: Some surfaces may have seen polishing in preparation for engraving. Original to engraving.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore but there are a few light marks. In this writer's opinion, this bore rate 9+ out of 10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. The balance is mostly turn-wear on the cylinder. There are a few minor marks. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with a strong slot. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in Good condition as custom-engraved (see Mechanics).

Mechanics: The hand tends to bind on the cylinder ratchet when operated in single-action, much less frequently in double-action. Otherwise, the action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with a serial-matching two-piece cardboard S&W box ("ENGRAVED" has been added to the label in the Special Features cell), cleaning rod, brush and mop, October 2012 dated letter from Jim Riggs confirming his engraving work, and a purple-lined French-fit presentation case with cartridge block.

Our Assessment: The Model 66 is, essentially, a stainless steel version of the model 19. This example, with its pinned 4" barrel and adjustable sights, gives the Model 19’s balance of size, precision, and power and also makes it more corrosion resistant and appealing to those who prefer the look of stainless steel. This one has been custom engraved by Jim Riggs of Boerne, Texas, with beautiful hand-cut scroll and punch-dot shading. The revolver comes with its original box as well as a nice presentation case.
