This lot features a group of traditional Japanese armor components associated with ashigaru infantry equipment, likely dating to the Edo Period (1603 to 1868). Included are a lacquered jingasa helmet, a pair of suneate greaves, and a pair of kote armored sleeves. Ashigaru were the foot soldiers of feudal Japan who served daimyo and samurai in large numbers during the Sengoku and early Edo periods, and their equipment was designed to provide practical protection while remaining relatively lightweight and economical.

The jingasa helmet is constructed in the typical conical form with a wide flared brim, finished in dark lacquer with a red lacquer interior. The front displays a painted gold crest featuring two stylized vase-like forms enclosed within a circular border. This crest may represent a clan symbol or regional identifier applied to infantry equipment. The helmet retains its interior padded liner with cloth ties for securing beneath the chin. The lacquer finish shows scattered handling wear consistent with age.

Also included are a pair of suneate shin guards and a pair of kote armored sleeves. The suneate consist of vertical iron splints attached to cloth backing with chain mail reinforcement. The kote are constructed with patterned fabric panels supporting iron plates and chain mail sections, designed to protect the forearm and elbow while maintaining mobility. The components show expected age and wear including oxidation on the metal elements and fraying to portions of the textile backing, consistent with antique armor pieces of this type. It is difficult to tell, but portions of this armor may have been upkept and repaired over time. Some of the cordage is suspect of being nonoriginal. Together these elements represent typical defensive equipment used by ashigaru soldiers during Japan's feudal period.
