Sights/Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. The top of the receiver has a Leupold base ready to accept an optic, though none is present.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is one piece Bell and Carlson synthetic with a raised comb, semi-pistol grip, plain forend, and a basket weave Decelerator synthetic buttpad. The buttpad has little handling wear. The stock has been pillar bedded. The furniture shows only some light surface scuffs. The LOP measures 13.25" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. The ports at the muzzle show carbon buildup. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original receiver finish. The finish shows scattered scratches and handling marks. The screw heads are faintly tooled and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This custom J.A. Kobe rifle is built on a Remington Model 700 action manufactured during the 1980s to 1990s. Jim Kobe was a well known gunsmith and built many rifles for some of the top F class shooters in MN. Produced by Remington and subsequently customized by J.A. Kobe. The single-shot configuration and exceptionally long barrel indicate a rifle purpose-built for accuracy rather than field carry.
Chambered in 6.5-284 Norma with a 31 inch barrel, this rifle is configured around one of the most respected long-range target and precision cartridges of its era. The 6.5-284 gained widespread popularity for its excellent ballistic performance, high velocity, and ability to launch high-ballistic-coefficient projectiles with exceptional accuracy. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10, indicating excellent internal condition. The action functions correctly.
The furniture rates in Fine condition with light handling wear and attractive presentation. The receiver retains approximately 95% of its original finish, showing only minor wear consistent with normal use. The trigger has been professionally adjusted. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition and stands as a purpose-built custom precision rifle based on the proven Remington Model 700 platform and chambered in the highly regarded 6.5-284 Norma cartridge.
