Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number "45" and additional Japanese characters. The top of the receiver lacks the Chrysanthemum, a typical feature of training rifles. Other small Japanese markings are present along the receiver and bolt components.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed blade. The rear sight is a simple notch, non-adjustable and fixed to the barrel, consistent with training configuration.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a two-piece wood configuration featuring a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, and grooved forend. There are light scratches and scattered compression marks typical of military training use. There are no chips or cracks. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is dark, smooth, and unrifled, which is standard for these training rifles. There is no rifling as these were not intended for use with live ammunition. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling wear with minimal thinning around contact points. There are small scattered scuffs and light marks along the barrel and receiver. The screw heads are sharp with serviceable slots. The pins are unmarred. The markings are legible. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Arisaka Type 99 Training Rifle is a striking piece of World War II-era Japanese military history. As such, they were made to resemble service rifles in size and operation but were chambered for blanks and lacked rifled bores.

The craftsmanship and attention to detail in replicating the look and feel of the standard Type 99 battle rifle show a deep commitment to soldier readiness. This piece, with its high condition rating and low serial number “45,” is a compelling example.
