Sights / Optics: The rifle is currently outfitted with a Hensoldt Wetzlar G36 style dual optic integrated into the carry handle. This optic features a 1x dual power reflex red dot sight sitting atop a 3x magnified optic with a circle cross hair reticle with ranging scale, and holdover crosses for 400, 600, and 800 meters. The top of the carry handle also has integrated back up irons for use when the reflex sight is removed. The reflex optic is currently working with the window open. At the time of inspection no battery was installed. The optical sight is clear with good light transmission. The optic shows no notable marks or wear. Also included are a low profile 10" picatinny rail and a 20" weaver style rail with iron sights.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a gray polymer set with a removable forend, a thumbhole stock with adjustable length of pull via spaces, and interchangeable cheekpieces to adjust the shooter's head position. The current length of pull is 13.75". The installed furniture shows some minor handling with some scattered very minor marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall the furniture is in about Excellent condition. The rifle also includes a black vented forend. This forend shows no notable mars or marks.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows a few very minor marks. The gas piston appears very clean. The screw heads are sharp and the pins are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a zippered soft case, total of three 10-round three magazines, single magazine pouch, chamber flag, the installed optic with flip-up lens cap, HK multi tool, silicone cloth, various screws, additional cheek piece, additional forend, cleaning rod with bore and chamber guide, two sight rails noted above, manual, paperwork, batteries, and a 3d printed forend block for use with tripods.

Our Assessment: This Heckler & Koch SL8-1, HK's distinctive sporting adaptation of the G36 platform. This example was made in 1999 and features a 20" cold hammer forged heavy barrel. Fed by proprietary 10-round magazines, the SL8-1 stands out with its futuristic styling, precision-oriented design, and renowned German engineering. Even decades later, the rifle still looks ahead of its time, with clean lines and a feel that sets it apart from more conventional sporting rifles.
