Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two piece hard rubber panels. The grips show little to no handling wear with no chips or cracks. The grips rate in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is lightly worn. There are scattered spots of moderate to heavy pitting throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5/10.

Overall Condition: This firearm retains about 90% of its original metal finish. The finish shows a faint turn line, edge wear, and scattered scratches. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this firearm rates in Good condition.

Mechanics: The lockup is fairly tight with some light play in it. The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Harrington & Richardson Young America First Model 3rd Variation was manufactured between 1898 and 1904 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic firearm. Produced by Harrington & Richardson Arms Company, the Young America series was developed as an affordable, compact pocket revolver for personal protection and everyday carry. Unlike H&R's larger top-break revolvers, the Young America First Model is a solid-frame design with cartridges loaded individually through a loading port on the right side of the frame. These First Model revolvers were designed exclusively for black powder .22 Rimfire ammunition and should only be fired with appropriate .22 Rimfire black powder cartridges. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5 out of 10, showing moderate to heavy wear with visible rifling remaining. The action functions correctly.

The grips rate in Excellent condition with minimal handling wear, providing an attractive contrast to the revolver's age. This firearm retains approximately 90% of its original metal finish, exhibiting only light thinning and handling wear. Overall, this firearm rates in Good condition due to the bore condition despite its strong exterior appearance, and it represents a well-preserved example of the Harrington & Richardson Young America First Model 3rd Variation that will appeal to collectors of early American pocket revolvers.
