Sights/Optics: The front sight is a hooded post. The rear sight is a sliding aperture marked from 2-12.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is three piece wood with a straight comb, semi pistol grip, grooved forend, nose cap with front sight assembly and stacking rod, hole for included bayonet, barrel band with sling ring, a sling well with sling bar, and a smooth metal butt plate. The buttplate shows light handling wear. The stacking rod is bent. The furniture shows a couple minor pressure dings and surface scratches. The LOP measures 12.5" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is well defined. There is light erosion throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of it's arsenal refurbished finish. The finish shows light surface scratches scattered throughout. The screw heads range from unmarred to lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This French MAS MLE 1936 (MAS-36) was manufactured between 1950 and 1951 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Manufacture d'armes de Saint-Étienne, the MAS-36 was the standard bolt-action service rifle of the French military before, during, and after World War II. Though simple in appearance, the rifle is renowned for its robust construction, rear-locking bolt design, and excellent field reliability. Many examples remained in military service well into the postwar era before being refurbished.

Chambered in 7.5x54mm French with a 22.6 inch barrel, this rifle reflects the final evolution of the traditional military bolt-action service rifle. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8.5 out of 10, indicating strong internal condition with good rifling. The action functions correctly.

The furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition with light handling wear and solid structure. This rifle retains approximately 96% of its arsenal-refurbished finish, presenting a very clean military appearance. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition and stands as an excellent example of the French MAS-36 in desirable arsenal-refurbished condition.
