Sights/Optics: The front sight is a brass bead fixed to the end of the barrel.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece wood furniture has a straight comb, checkered semi-pistol grip, checkered forend, and a serrated synthetic butt plate. There is light wear with pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. The checkering is well defined with a few blemishes and minor marks. The most notable marks on the wood are three separate drag lines on the buttstock. The LOP measures 14" from the face of the trigger to the rear of the butt. There are no chips or cracks. Overall the furniture is in Fine condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original, the Ordnance marks are not genuine.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with light streaking. There is no erosion in the bore, there are some minor tool marks where the bead was dressed. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. There is only light wear with occasional surface scratches. The magazine tube shows finish loss from operational wear. The markings are clear and complete. Note that the flaming bomb ordnance marks and "P" marks are not original. and Overall, this shotgun rates in Fine condition as customized.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This shotgun presents as a well executed custom configuration built on the Stevens 620-A action. Approximately 90% of the original finish remains, with clean metal surfaces and light, even wear consistent with careful handling. The shortened 18.5" barrel gives the gun a compact, handy profile, and the bore rates an excellent 9.5 out of 10 with bright steel and sharp interior condition. The action functions correctly, retaining the smooth, positive pump operation for which the Model 620 series is well regarded.

This shotgun is not an original factory riot gun. Stevens riot guns were not chambered in 16 gauge, and this example's barrel has been cut down from a longer length. Additionally, the markings present are not correct for a factory riot gun configuration. These points are clearly stated to avoid any confusion regarding originality or military or law enforcement provenance. This firearm should be evaluated strictly as a custom shortened sporting shotgun, not as an authentic riot or trench gun variant.

Historically, the Stevens 620-A is closely associated with wartime and postwar pump shotgun production, sharing design lineage with the John Browning influenced takedown system. While original riot configurations are highly collectible, custom builds such as this reflect common period modifications made by owners seeking a shorter, more maneuverable shotgun for practical use.

As presented, this example offers strong mechanical condition, excellent bore quality, and a clean overall appearance, while being a non factory custom configuration. It remains an honest and functional Stevens pump shotgun with correct disclosures clearly noted.
