Sights / Optics: The front sight is a globe sight with a post insert and is dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a folding inversible u/v notch sight with white diamond aim reference, dovetailed to the barrel. 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece walnut with a checkered straight grip, high elevation brass scheutzen style buttplate, straight comb with cheek piece, round belly, and palm rest mounted to the forend.  The LOP measures 14" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There is minor tarnish on the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is crisp. There are a few minor handling marks. The stocks rate in about Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Case Color & Blued

Finish Originality: Original, the barrel is not original to the receiver.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 10/10. 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 80% of its met finish. The balance of the finish on the barrel is strong and complete throughout. The case color on the receiver has mostly muted with some case color still visible. The markings are clear. The screwheads are tool marked with serviceable slots. The rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Remington’s Rolling Block large frame military arms were in service from 1867 to 1918, spanning the American Civil War and World War One. The robust single-shot rifles are known for inherent accuracy and strength beyond the call of duty. The rifles were so successful that smaller framed variants were produced for sporting purposes. This is a No. 1 that has been re-barreled with a new Numrich 28″ octagonal barrel chambered for .45-70. It has nice sights and a good bore, it should be a joy at the range.
