Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into a serrated a base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation v/u-notch dovetailed into the barrel. The receiver has a pair of taps for mounting an aperture, though none is present.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The customized furniture is two piece wood with a checkered semi pistol grip, straight comb, checkered schnabel forend, and a serrated metal Savage buttplate. The buttplate has moderate handling wear and light oxidation. The furniture shows some light pressure dings and surface scratches. There are no chips or cracks. The engravings are clear and the cuts are clean. The yellow accents show fading from age, but still are quite tasteful to the overall vibe of the rifle. The LOP measures 13" from the face of the trigger to the rear of the butt. The furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition.
Type of Finish: Blued, case colored lever
Finish Originality: Original (has a lot of the stock varnish still covering the bluing)
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with light copper fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This firearm retains about 95% of its original metal finish. Aside from the stock varnish on much of the finish, it only shows some light scratches. The screw heads range from unmarred to lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this firearm rates in Very Good Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This custom Savage Model 99EG was manufactured in 1951 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Savage Arms, the Model 99 is one of the most innovative lever-action sporting rifles ever developed. Featuring a hammerless action and rotary magazine capable of safely feeding pointed bullets, the Model 99 combined the speed of a lever action with the ballistic advantages of modern rifle cartridges. This example has been customized with engraved furniture, giving it a distinctive appearance while retaining the classic Model 99EG configuration.
Chambered in .300 Savage with a 24 inch barrel, this rifle is paired with the cartridge that helped make the Model 99 famous. The .300 Savage served as the foundation for the .308 Winchester. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10, indicating excellent internal condition with strong rifling. The action functions correctly.
The engraved furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition with attractive presentation. This firearm retains approximately 95% of its original metal finish; however, varnish from the stock refinishing process extends onto portions of the blued metal, covering much of the finish and affecting the overall appearance. Overall, this firearm rates in Very Good Plus condition and stands as a unique custom Savage Model 99EG with personalized engraved furniture and an excellent bore.
