Sights/Optics: The front and rear iron sights have been removed and filled taps remain where they used to be. A Tasco 6-24x40mm scope on 1" Weaver rings is mounted to the receiver. There are Butler Creek scope covers attached. The duplex reticle is clear and the scope rates in Very Good condition.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is one piece painted wood with a raised comb, semi-pistol grip, smooth forend, and a serrated synthetic Remington buttplate. The buttplate has light handling wear. A Limbsaver Deresonator is mounted near the muzzle. A Timney trigger is installed. The furniture shows a small nick on the bottom of the pistol grip and a small scuff below the bolt handle cut. The LOP measures 13.25" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with stubborn fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original metal finish. The finish shows some minor scratches and occasional freckling. The screw heads show light tooling and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This custom Remington Model 788 was manufactured in 1977 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Remington, the Model 788 earned an outstanding reputation for accuracy despite being introduced as an economical sporting rifle. Its rear-locking bolt design and rigid receiver frequently delivered accuracy that rivaled far more expensive rifles, making the 788 a favorite among varmint hunters and precision shooters.

Chambered in .223 Remington with a 24 inch barrel, this rifle is ideally suited for varmint hunting and target shooting. A Tasco 6-24x40mm scope is mounted, providing ample magnification for precision work at extended distances. The rifle has also been upgraded with a Timney trigger, offering an improved trigger pull over the factory unit. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10, indicating excellent internal condition with strong rifling. The action functions correctly.
