Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade pinned to a banded base at the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch dovetailed to the rear of the barrel extension.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered black plastic panels with a black-on-silver Ruger medallion on the left panel. The grips have minor handling wear with a few light nicks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Fine condition.
Type of Finish: Blue and Gold Bands
Finish Originality: Refinished at time of engraving.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its current metal finish. The finish is generally strong with a few minor marks and one more notable scuff on the top-left of the barrel about mid-way down. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Fine condition as custom-engraved.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Ruger Standard Model, introduced in 1949, marked the beginning of Sturm, Ruger and Company and quickly established a reputation for reliability, accuracy, and value in a rimfire semi-automatic pistol. Drawing inspiration from earlier European designs as well as the Japanese Type 14, while incorporating modern manufacturing techniques, the Standard Model became a foundational piece in American rimfire shooting. Chambered in .22 Long Rifle, a cartridge introduced in 1887 and widely regarded for its minimal recoil and inherent precision, the pistol proved ideal for target shooting and training. By 1962, production had refined the design while maintaining the fixed barrel and blowback operation that contributed to its accuracy.
This example has been custom engraved with well-executed foliate scroll and gold motif, making for a visually striking pistol. It is in Fine condition, showing limited signs of use since being engraved, retaining a great bore and strong mechanics. The Ruger Standard Model is a cornerstone of American rimfire pistol design, forming the basis for the later Mark series and establishing Ruger's presence in the firearms industry.
