Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a "V"-notch integral to the topstrap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are one-piece (actually two panels connected to an interior piece) smooth bone. The grips have some light nicks and scratches with discoloration from age and handling. There are some grain-lines on the bottom, but no chips or cracks. The grip has minor play to the frame. Overall, the grip is in Very Good-plus condition as not original to the gun.

Type of Finish: Blue & Case Color

Finish Originality: Refinished at time of engraving, matching numbered parts. Bottom of the barrel is marked "C. Lewis 2019".

Bore Condition: The bore is gray. The rifling is worn, but visible. There is erosion and pitting scattered through the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 5/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its current metal finish. There are a few scattered minor marks. There is some minor wear in the top of the backstrap. There is some scattered minor erosion under the finish. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in about Fine condition as refinished and custom engraved.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be needed to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Colt’s Single Action Army is, perhaps more than any other, an iconic American pistol. It was the U.S. issue sidearm for the last two decades of the 19th century, used by pioneers, outlaws and lawmen across the expanding nation, and captivated audiences on the silver screen and television. Produced for nearly a century and a half, they are still being made, today! This example is a 1st Generation Single Action Army made in 1904 and has since been beautifully customized with relief foliate scroll engraving set off by Western-style crosshatch and sunburst motif. The revolver's new blue and case color finish is deep and strong throughout. Any 1st Generation SAA would make a great addition to a Colt collection, and this engraved example should be no exception.
