Sights / Optics: The sights are a Millett target set. The front sight is a ramped blade with a T-shaped white inlay, double-staked to the front of the slide. The rear sight is a white-outlined square-notch adjustable for windage and elevation in a base pinned to the rear of the slide. The top of the slide has a solid rib, serrated for glare reduction. The sights are not original to the gun.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece Hogue checkered wood with palm-swells and smooth diamonds around the screws. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Excellent condition as not original to the gun.

Type of Finish: Stainless Steel

Finish Originality: Original to the parts, several parts have been replaced.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, there is a little stubborn fouling. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9+/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are some scattered minor nicks, scuffs and scratches. There is a line of wear in the top of the fronstrap from the original wraparound grip. The action shows light operational wear. The screwheads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in about Fine condition as customized.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be needed to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Gold Cup Trophy is a modern incarnation of the original Gold Cup National Match pistols. In addition to the original features of an adjustable target sight and adjustable trigger, these pistol featured stainless steel construction, a skeletonized hammer, skeletonized trigger, beavertail grip safety, and checkered rubber grips. This example has seen further customization with a King's bushing, full-length guide-rod, extended slide stop and thumb-safety, extended beavertail grip safety, Millett target sights, Hogue palm-swell grips and an arched mainspring housing with integral beveled magazine well.
