Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade slotted into a raised checkered base that is integral to the textured rib running along the top of the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch with a checkered face dovetailed into the rib. There is a Kahles HELIA - Super 6/S 2 scope mounted via claw quick detach scope mounts on the receiver and barrel. The optic has a number 7A duplex reticle. The glass is clear and the scope rates in Very Good condition.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is a one piece wood with a cheekpiece, detachable riser, checkered semi-pistol grip, figured forend with finger grooves, and a red synthetic buttpad. The buttpad shows very light wear. The furniture shows light wear with scattered pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. There are some dings in the front of the riser from the bolt being removed. The LOP measures 13.75" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. There are no chips or cracks. This furniture rates in about Fine condition.

Finish Originality: Original to Custom Build

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with stubborn fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The metal shows a few small dings and surface blemishes. The screw heads are unmarred and retain turnable slots. The elk engraving on the floorplate and the chamois on the trigger guard look fantastic. The rest of the engravings and markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not shoot this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This custom DSCHULNIGG Super De Luxe, serial number 37.99, was crafted in 1951 by Austrian master gunsmith Josef Winkler and reflects the refined Central European sporting rifle tradition of the postwar period. Built with the elegance and mechanical precision expected of mid-20th century Austrian gunmaking, this rifle combines graceful lines with finely executed engraving. The elk engraved on the floorplate and the chamois on the trigger guard are particularly striking, complemented by well-cut engraving across the receiver and bolt handle that enhances the rifle's overall presentation.

Originally chambered in .30-06, as still visible on the left side of the barrel, the rifle was subsequently rechambered for .300 H&H Magnum. Chambered now in .300 H&H Magnum with a 23.75" barrel, it is built around one of the most storied British magnum cartridges of the early 20th century. Introduced in 1925, the .300 H&H Magnum became synonymous with long-range performance and safari use, prized for its smooth feeding and ballistic capability. The bore rates an excellent 9.5 out of 10, and the action functions correctly. A Kahles HELIA Super 6/S 2 scope is mounted, period appropriate to the rifle's European heritage and well matched to its configuration.

Approximately 98% of the finish remains, presenting a beautifully preserved example of a postwar Austrian custom sporting rifle. The combination of master engraving, elegant chambering, and Austrian optical pairing makes this DSCHULNIGG Super De Luxe a compelling expression of old world craftsmanship adapted to a classic magnum cartridge.
