Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a brass bead fixed to the muzzle end of the barrel. The rear sight is a “V”-notch integral to the hammer that can be used when the hammer is cocked.

Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The grip is one-piece smooth walnut. There is no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no cracks or chips. Overall, the grip is in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Royal Blue, Case Color and Silver

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: The revolver retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are some light handling marks and the silver has darkened with age, but the gun lacks any notable defects. There is scattered grease from the packaging. The markings remain clear. The screwheads are sharp. Overall, the revolver is in Fine-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this revolver. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box Paperwork and Accessories: The revolver comes in its original wooden box with blue velvet padding inside, a cap tin, a two-cavity bullet mould, a black powder flask, a nipple wrench & a screwdriver in addition to a key.

Our Assessment: This Colt model 1851 Navy Ulysses S. Grant Commemorative was a special edition single-action .36 caliber percussion revolver released only in 1971. During the limited run, 4,750 of these commemorative revolvers were produced. Ulysses S. Grant is a key figure in American history, he served as the Commanding General of the U.S. Army in the Civil War and would later serve as the 18th President of the United States. He is credited with having masterminded the ultimate Union victory over the South, and he accepted Robert E. Lee’s surrender at Appomattox Court House in 1865.
