Sights/Optics: The front sight is a serrated, ramped blade fixed to the barrel; a white bead has been installed on the blade. The rear sight is a square notched leaf pinned to the topstrap adjustable for windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration and Condition: The grips are two-piece antiqued bone panels, the right panel is carved with a steer's head. The grips have some shape-wear around the edges and a few scattered minor marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Very Good condition as not original to the gun.

Type of Finish: Blue & Case Color

Finish Originality: Original, numbered parts match.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is infrequent faint erosion and a little stubborn fouling in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. There is some discoloration on the front sight around the installed bead. The cylinder has minor turn-wear. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are mostly sharp, the grip screw is tool marked with a strong slot. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: On offer here is the adjustable sighted cousin of Colt’s legendary Single Action Army, the New Frontier Single Action Army. While the original SAA revolvers have rugged, fixed sights, the New Frontier has a ramped front sight and adjustable rear sight, giving it a rather contemporary appearance. This is a fairly early example, made in 1963 during the 2nd Generation of SAA production. The revolver is in Fine condition, retaining 97% of its original metal finish and has a very nice case colored flat-top frame. It has been equipped with an attractive set of steer's head grips and a white bead has been installed on the front sight, but the revolver otherwise appears to have seen little use. This model has a 5 1/2″ barrel and is chambered for the ever-desirable .44 Special cartridge. As a collector item, you can’t beat the look and feel of a Colt.
